Economical Upgrades: Get What You Want and Save Money

While you know the importance of deploying value-added services, reducing capital expenditures is priority No.1. By utilizing much of your network's exiting assets, an economical network upgrade can save you up to 50 percent the cost of a traditional upgrade needed to provide your customers the services they have learned to expect. A custom network solution is the key.

Follow these steps to get a custom network solution for way less than you anticipated:

1.) Document your goals and objectives. What do you want? What are you concerned about?

2.) Analyze the site and survey of your current network. Where are its shortcomings? What are the opportunities?

o Evaluate the existing headend: check the existing equipment and evaluate the forward and returning combining networks to determine bandwidth.
o Analyze the existing coaxial cable: determine the physical status of the cable as well as its performance. Do a forward and reverse sweep. Also, run a TDR test.
o Verify plant miles: using high-level maps, verify the amount of plant miles needing the upgrade.

3.) Create a plan to remedy the network's downfalls and build on its opportunities. This step requires a unique team of engineers that take the plant's data, analyze it and develop several options that meet your highest priorities. These options should be detailed and provide you budgetary information within 5 to 10 percent of the actual cost.
