Are you unsure about the general status of your network and how it is performing? Are you aware of its problem areas? Not knowing the answers to these questions is unsettling and can cost network operators more in the long run if corrections are continually put off. Taking better care of your plant primarily revolves around performing proactive maintenance and keeping tabs on its status. Undertake 3 steps to rest assure your network is performing at its best at any point.
1.) Perform Proactive Maintenance
Do a walk out on the network and spot check various areas to get a general idea of network’s status. Check for noise on the reverse path and signal leakage on the forward path. Is the equipment balanced? Do the modems work or will they work if deployed?
2.) Rebalance the Network
Track ingress and mitigate the noise. Overtime amplifiers tend to drift in signal levels and cause the plant to not run well leading to service problems. Readjust the equipment to make sure the signals are at the same level as they are transported.
3.) Proactively Monitor the Network
Continuously monitor the network for noise. Implement devices into the network that will automatically monitor the network and send out alerts when the noise threshold is broken.
In addition to these steps, using GIS smart mapping technology will serve as a solid foundation for taking better care of your plant and assist your team in tracking problem areas.
